This month we were lucky enough to receive two male servals from FreeMe Wild. They both lost their mums and have been rehabilitated from a young age, but now they are ready to be released!
The plan was to put them into a Boma for a few weeks whilst they got used to their surroundings, but with anything animal related, nothing goes to plan, and both of them escaped within a matter of days! Since their escape, the pair have stayed around the area of the Boma where we are leaving some titbits of food for them whilst they hone their own hunting skills. Servals are known to catch up to 4,000 rodents in a single year and with their athletic ability, they can spring 3 metres into the air!
Servals are one of the most secretive nocturnal cats and it’s always a delight when you spot their sparkly eyes on a night drive and watch as they go about their business.
As they are collared, we have been able to track their movements around the Reserve. They have since started to explore their new home and several times we have managed to pick them up on our camera traps!
