UmPhafa is home to over 120 Eland who gracefully roam the hills looking for the tastiest grass. During the Summer, you can find them on the savannah areas with their babies around this time of the year, during the Winter they prefer the hills and tree cover.

We have recorded over 20 babies this year so far and we are sure there may be a few more on the way.
One of their most striking features apart from their powerful build and horns is the clicking noise their hooves make when they are walking / running. Whilst they do not run very fast, every time we see them, they start running in the opposite direction!
Being the World’s largest antelope you would think they would just stand still but no, almost every picture we get you can see lots of bottoms as they race over the hills!
These majestic animals can hurdle fences up to 2 metres and can live for 15-20 years so they will definitely be on UmPhafa for a long time to come.
